Korean skincare routine

This year I decided it was time to get a “grownup” skincare routine. The Neutrogena & Oil of Olay combo was just not cutting it any more. My skin was dry, red & overall pretty dull. So, while sitting in the hair salon chair for hours, I came across an article outlining the daily skincare routines of a few celebrities. The one thing they all had in common – 6-10 different products that they used twice a day. May seem overboard but your face is, well, YOUR FACE. It’s the one part of your body that is constantly exposed to sun, wind, weather, pollutants, etc. So, I began my search to find the handful of products that would work best for me. In that search I came across a new trend in skincare: Korean products. Korean companies known for their amazing products have been around for decades but are just recently gaining traction in the U.S. Ya know the explosion of BB cremes in the past few years? Well, that idea originated in Korea.

Here’s the normal step by step Korean skincare routine:
Step 1: Cleansing
Step 2: Exfoliating (1x/week)
Step 3: Toner
Step 4: Essence
Step 5: Ampoule (serum)
Step 6: Sheet Mask (2x/week)
Step 7: Eye cream
Step 8: Moisturizer & sunscreen if daytime
Step 9: Night Mask

After reading 1,138,245 reviews about different Korean skincare products, here’s what I’ve decided to go with for each step.

Step 1: The Face Shop Rice Water Cleansing Oil
Step 2: Skin Food Black Sugar Wash Off Mask
Step 3: SU:M37 Waterfull Skin Refresher
Step 4: Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence
Step 5: Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule
Step 6: **Still researching**
Step 7: Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream
Step 8: Laneige Perfect Renew Emulsion (You can buy this at Target now!!)
Step 9: Laneige Water Sleeping Pack (You can buy this at Target now!!)

I purchased almost all of my products from Amazon with my prime membership so they came quickly. An easy list to go by:

WHAT TO START WITH

I know – all of those combined is pretty expensive.  I certainly didn’t buy everything in one batch so I bought a few starter items and I’ve been adding in others as I go.  Here’s what I would start off with and then build in.

RESULTS

I’ve been at this routine for almost two months and I’m obsessed.  Yes, it takes a little more time than my old routine but my skin is SO hydrated, less red and my makeup goes on like freakin’ melted butter.  I’ve had zero dry spots or skin flakes since I started and it’s the dead of winter with over 40″ of snow on the ground.  I actually look forward to the routine twice every day and even convinced Brent to give it a whirl.  He was skeptical at first but can’t stop talking about how hydrated his skin is.
